WAS LOVE BUG AN ACCIDENT?

MANILA, Philippines (AP) -- A computer student sought by investigators in the Love Bug virus case emerged from hiding yesterday to say he may have accidentally released the malicious program that disrupted computer systems around the world.

The program released last week sent a flood of e-mails with the subject line "ILOVE YOU" speeding through computer systems worldwide.

College officials have said de Guzman helped develop programs that may have been combined to produce the virus.

SCHOOL BOMBER FAILS

EVERGREEN PARK, Ill. (AP) -- A high school was closed yesterday and a student taken into custody after officials found a gasoline-filled bottle intended to explode inside a locker. A fuse on the bottle had been lit, but it failed to set off the explosion because of a lack of oxygen. Evergreen Park High School is the alma mater of Unabomber Ted Kaczynski, who sent mail bombs that killed three people before his arrest in 1996.

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) -- Women bathers at a nudist beach in Sweden tracked down a peeping tom after his wife published his name and photo in the local paper to mark his 50th birthday.
